A Letter to the Polygraph Profession

To the Profession:

We (Ralph & Nadine) have made some difficult business and personal decisions.

Out of respect for those who like it when people get to the point, this letter is going to be all business. Understanding the ‘why’s’ of this business letter will be important to some of you. A more personal letter that should answer many of those questions will follow later.

The term downsizing just doesn’t seem to fit a mom and pop shop like our Polygraph Place, but that really is the best way to describe what we are doing. What does that mean for you? Maybe nothing, but please read through the following list of changes to our paid and free services.

Business Services

Website Design-Hosting: TRANSITIONING - WordNet Solutions (the web design/hosting portion of our business) has merged with CorData, a trusted business partner for 5+ years. CorData will be fulfilling all existing contracts plus they have a seasoned web development & technical support team ready to meet your upcoming and future design-hosting needs. Learn more about CorData

* For all existing clients, an introductory letter from CorData will be coming once we have completed the necessary transitions. In the meantime, continue to send you website-hosting changes to me as usual at detector@polygraphplace.com.

Business Printing: CLOSED - The Polygraph Place will no longer be offering printing services. This includes business cards, letterhead, signage and graphic design.

Advertising: UP & RUNNING - The original polygraphplace.com website will continue with its current advertising opportunities including basic listings, featured listings, state banners, polygraph specialist banners, run of site banners and special placement advertisers.

Polygraph Community

Polygraph Place Forums: UP & RUNNING. The forums, especially the private forum for examiners, fills a necessary function in our community. It is the only place where polygraphers can discuss their ‘unofficial’ views on the events that are directing or affecting our profession, regardless of location or affiliation. I plan to offer free hosting for this forum for years to come, but I hope to soon turn over the operation and direction of the forum to the community itself. Please feel free to start an ‘ideaforia’ discussion in the private forum on how to do this with the least amount of chaos and greatest amount of common sense.

Real Polygraph Lie Detection News listserver & Blog: ON HOLD; with the exception of an occasional announcement, news of special importance or closeout sale item.

Polygraph Merchandise & Instrumentation

Polygraph Place Store: CLOSING - The online store will remain open with remaining inventory available for purchase online until March 12, 2010. No Returns or exchanges.

Polygraph T-Shirts: CLOSEOUT - All T-shirt designs still closeout priced at $10 each. No more will be printed so when they are gone, they are gone. http://store.polygraphplace.com.

Polygraph Technique Guides: PRE-ORDER ONLY - We do have a few technique guides left in stock that you can buy now on the store until March 12. After this stock is depleted, we will re-order once we have sufficient offline pre-order commitments. http://store.polygraphplace.com

PICS – Polygraph Instrumentation Consignment Sales: CLOSING – Our only remaining inventory are two analog instruments. Still available for purchase online until March 12, 2010. http://store.polygraphplace.com

That’s it for now. We will be moving out of our offices over the weekend and our ability to communicate will be sporadic. If there are any urgent concerns, please email detector@polygraphplace.com. I will be checking that email regularly.

OCPI Now Accredited - Upcoming Training Opportunity - News Rover Needed - New PICS Instrument Prices - Polygraph Place Changes

We kept the blog fairly quiet over the holidays and into the beginning of this new year. Nadine and I do hope the holidays had some refreshing moments for you and yours. This will be a 'bits and pieces' release of the blog to quickly cover several items.
-----------------------------------------------

Orange County Polygraph Institute (OCPI) receives APA Accreditation.
The APA Board of Directors met on December 15th and approved accreditation for this new Polygraph School in Southern California. Congratulations to director Leonard Salcedo and his team for working hard to meet APA standards and guidelines so this new school can offer quality training now and into the future.

OCPI to host APA PCSOT Committee Chairman Raymond Nelson as instructor.
OCPI will be offering their Post Conviction Sex Offender Polygraph Examiner Training Course (PCSOT) at their facilities from February 1st - February 5th, 2010. The instructor for this course will be Raymond Nelson, who is the new APA PCSOT Chairman. I understand that this course will include an opportunity to better understand the APA approved model policy guidelines for PCSOT. Spots are still available. You may register for this as well as other OCPI training opportunities by visiting... https://www.ocpica.com/courses.php

Polygraph Place looking for a News Junkie
If you are an examiner who is self motivated and enjoys staying 'in the know' of important polygraph related news, I'd like to talk with you. We are looking for a news rover who enjoys finding and conveying polygraph related news items for the benefit of the profession. If this even slightly resonates with you, please send an 'I'm interested, need more info' email to detector@polygraphplace.com.

PICS - New rock bottom prices on used instrumentation.
We have four instruments available. If you have been waiting to 'get the best deal', well this is it. I have spoken with each instrument owner and these are firm final offers. Don't let it slip by, there are a couple of really sweet deals here.

Significant Polygraph Place Changes Coming.
I spent the holidays re-evaluating the Polygraph Place with the end result being that it is time for some significant changes. I will be sharing more about these in the next few weeks. Sorry to be so vague, but I still have a few key proverbial ducks to get into a row and then all things can be made clear.

As always, thanks so much for all your support to us and this profession through the years. Ralph & Nadine Hilliard

Limestone Pelican Case

  • NEVADA SUPREME COURT - A case involving polygraph and a suit against polygraph examiner Ron Slay has been successfully appealed to the Nevada Supreme Court. The case began on Monday, but no decision has been made. Slay tested both parties in a child custody battle in his role as as a court appointed examiner. This is being argued as a conflict of interest. (second story on following page)

PICS - 5 Used Instrument Specials This Week

In case anyone was wondering, we did survive the 22 inches of rainfall and flooding that recently pounded Metro Atlanta Georgia. My tomato plants are drunk and falling over from all the water, but other than that, we are doing fine.

We've got 5 Used Instruments for Sale This Week. So I'd like to start with 5 reasons to purchase your used instrument from us rather than on Ebay or some other place:
  1. Some instruments are actually just like new, never being used, so you can get used instrument pricing on what is essentially a brand new instrument
  2. We are providing this service to the profession. We take a small fee to help support our services, but the majority of the sale goes to helping a fellow polygraph examiner
  3. You know us, we've been here for over eleven years. If something goes awry, we are one phone call or email away.
  4. We have gone through each instrument to note any defects, nuances or missing parts so you know what you are getting or not getting.
  5. Prices are negotiable within reason. The goal is for a win-win-win-win between buyer, seller and ourselves and the profession. Instruments are sold only to qualified examiners and institutions. This helps reduce the growing pseudo-examiner frauds that have hit our profession in the past few years.

Polygraph Place Store Expanded - Check it out!

You may have noticed that the blog has been silent for over a week. I'd like to tell you that Nadine and I were sipping Mai Tais in Zihuatanejo for a week, but the truth is we've been feverishly working to implement our new PICS Used Instrumentation program as well as updating and expanding the store to include our newest shipment of T-shirt Designs and a brand new Polygraph Chair.

There are a bazillion finer details I'd love to explain, but its very late and I'll just let the hard work display itself for now. Oh and feel free to purchase something so we can keep serving the profession and/or actually go to Zihuatanejo for Mai Tais. ;) Thanks so much for your continued support through the years.

Polygraph Instrumentation Consignment Sales (PICS)

Do you have used polygraph instrumentation that you've thought about selling, but don't want to sell to unqualified strangers on Ebay or Craig's List?

Are you looking for used polygraph instrumentation?

If you have any of the following used polygraph instrumentation/software/accessories, then now may be the time to find a good new home for them and put a little cash in your pocket at the same time:

  • Computerized Systems with or without laptop
  • Analog Instruments
  • Component Sets
  • Movement Sensors
  • Video Cameras
  • Scoring Algorithms/Software
  • Polygraph Chairs
  • Polygraph Carrying Cases
  • Chart Paper/Ink for Analog

The Polygraph Place has been helping connect examiners buying and selling used polygraph instrumentation as a side service for a couple of years, we just never formalized the process into a service to be available for everyone. Well now we have. I'd like to introduce our newest service:

'PICS' - Polygraph Instrumentation Consignment Sales.

As you probably know, this upcoming week is the American Polygraph Association Seminar in Nashville, Tennessee and the Polygraph Place will be there. I wanted to announce our new PICS service just in time for the seminar so that if you have been wanting to sell your used polygraph instrumentation, you could bring it with you and save on shipping costs.

But before I get ahead of myself, here is a brief overview of how PICS will work.

There are three ways to play PICS:

1. We sell it for you. We do all the work - Get the instrumentation to us (at APA or ship to our office). We take pictures, write descriptions, market and sell your instrumentation to a qualified buyer. We do all the work, we get a fee, you get a check.

2. You sell it yourself through us. - You take the pictures, write descriptions and we advertise it through our venues. You negotiate the deal and ship the instrumentation. We collect a percentage based fee that is determined by the sales price of the item(s).

3. Instrumentation Wanted - If you have been looking for any type of used instrumentation, simply submit a request to us and we'll try to locate that for you.

Regardless of which way you may want to participate in PICS, the first step will be to fill out our no obligation PICS form. After we receive the form, we will be in contact with you for the next step and to answer any questions.

The APA seminar is a great time to kick off this service as we will be able to connect buyers and sellers while both of your are present in Nashville next week, but even if you aren't attending, the form is the first step for both Sellers & Buyers. All the details will follow.

PICS FORM: http://www.polygraphplace.com/docs/polygraph_instrumentation_sales_form.htm (There is no obligation in taking this first step)

If you know you want to sell your instrumentation through us and will be in Nashville, go ahead and bring it with you if possible.

Keep in mind, PICS is only for USED instrumentation. We consider this another opportunity to connect examiners and fill what has become an obvious need for the profession. We desire to support all the fine instrument manufacturers and have no desire to compete with them on new instrument sales. Our working definition of 'used' will be that the instrumentation has been purchased at least once, even if that means you bought the instrument but never opened the package and never ran an exam.

More detailed info on the PICS program will be forthcoming here in the blog after the APA Seminar, but feel free to get a jump start and fill out the no obligation form:
